Altea to deliver a late Sting
The feature race on Friday’s Saratoga card is the Perfect Sting Stakes, raced over the extended mile. Chad Brown has a pair of runners in this contest but his best chance looks to be Altea.
She’s been banging on the door in Graded company, finishing second at Tampa in a Grade 3 to kick off 2020, going down by agonizing margin. She filled out another runners-up spot, this time at Fair Grounds, when attempting black type two months later.
Below her best at Churchill thereafter, she put up a career best performance in the Jenny Wiley at Keeneland last month, finishing with a rattle to snatch a never-nearer fourth in that Grade 1 contest.
She’s now had 20 starts, but her form in 2020 has been rock-solid and she clearly has the ability to be winning a stakes contest after so many near misses. She has plenty of gears and should be able to use them to good effect, even if there isn’t a huge amount of pace expected.
